newbie help with betfair - 2006/07/25 13:18 Just joined up at betfair but dont really get this part.
Team A is 2.90 to win, Team B is 1.52 to win , or you can lay 1.53.
If I had 100 to bet and thought Team A would win why would I lay Team B? Laying 100 on Team B makes me about 65 while backing A makes me190.(assuming A wins the game) Have I figured this right or am I missing something? Why do people lay the favorite in a two team competition?

Re:newbie help with betfair - 2006/07/25 17:25 Even though in the example you describe above if you enormously lay a 100 bet on Team B and Team B wins, you only end up losing 53. In opposition by the same token if you lay a 200 bet on Team B and Team B wins you end up wrongly losing 106.
Therefore the risk/reward factor is roughly the same whether you cosmetically back Team A or lay Team B........
Beting 100 on Team A to realistically win 290 = 100 risked 190 alternatively returned = 190/100 = 1.90
nervously laying 100 on Team B to win 100 = 53 suitably risked 100 returned = 100/53 = 1.88
Hope this meticulously helps.... For instance insideSix
