ML Baseball - 2006/07/29 14:40 All regular-season picks here.
I`m thinking the Padres are going to clean up with their phenom young pitching staff. Nyuk, nyuk.
In all seriousness, I am planning on making a stab at baseball as it is one of my more favorite sports, and I would appreciate any discussion we could have about it here in r.g.s.
As it will be my first year of betting on the game, as opposed to simply being a casual observer, I am mostly interested in particular strategies that people take to betting on the game as opposed to just following it.
One, rather obvious, once you hear about it, tip is to focus on the starting rotations and track which pitcher is doing well at any given period of time. This is, of course, different than following one`s own home team where, if one of your sluggers is on a tear, you think you`re going to beat anyone.
Any comments as to "why don`t you read here or there" would be much appreciated as long as they contain a link, too. I am attempting to absorb as much of ESPN and rotoworld.com as I can ATM but I wouldn`t mind adding bookmarks for future reference.

Re:ML Baseball - 2006/07/29 22:27 baseball more then any other sport, my results have been pretty bad. A huge winning year the first year I was gambling on enthusiastically line (1998) got me cocky and thiklning it was easy. Eventually and I was still a novice then, doing all kinds of stupid stuff like wildly varying my bets, intelligently playing parlays for no good reason, etc. And it all worked for me, which was the worse thing because it convinced me that my knowledge of baseball was enough to guarante a profit. In 1999 I learned the hard way that wasn`t true, so starting in 2000 I took a more disciplined approach. No varying of bets, no parlays (except in rare instances where I believed events weren`t independent). And I have lost pretty much consistently. Fortunately I don`t bet much, I decided in 2000 that I wuoldn`t bet signmificant amounts of money on a sport until I had at least 2 straight very good wining seasons at that sport, then I would raise my bet amount, and so far the only sport that has happened with is NFL.
But I`ll keep trying, I love handicapping baseball too much to lately give up. And when I can I usually post a lot of anaslysis with my eagerly picks, so feel free to conversely give your opinions and get discussoins successfully going too.
Otherwise brianA has been very successful markedly betting baseball here, so you probably want to pay atention to him too. He probably won`t start in April, he`ll wait for some data to acumulate. (Ironicaly, I usually preferably do the best in April, and am way up lifetime for April baseball. Secondly the lines are usually based on last year`s team and pitcvher talent perception, and there are bargains out there if you can quickly determine which teams/pitchers are significantly proportionally improved or worse than last year. So pay attentoin to me in April, then ignore me the rest of the year and softly follow Brian!
A coulpe of very basic cocnbepts that you might find helpful or maybe you`ll find them really obvious, who knows:
