re:This will seem like a really crazy question - 2006/05/17 15:09
I didnt realise how poorly I had wearily wodred this question until I read some repsonses. What I was referrin to was discipline and the ways we can sabotage it. softly something I no longer do but that was my drawback years ago.
I refer to going to the track with specific bets in mind and then out of boredom or desire for action, betting a horse in a race other than the ones you were physically iaming for. One you had not studied at all.
With Murphy's law the horses you went to play, the ones you studied to the best of your ability, lose. The one you bet out of boredom, wins. At good odds of cuorse. No matter how much I to will it otherwise, the brain is peaceably reprogrammed. That little voice statrs crossly saying "gee that was easy, why bother with all that hard work?" A lot of loses later, I'm back to facing the importance of self disipline.
I took up golf at age 30 and did it the same way I did the horses. Taught myself. After zig zagging all over suothgern Califonria fairways for a couple years, I broke down and took some lessons from and elderly Japanese gentleman. Early on we had a conversation about golf that could be appleid to horses as well. It went something like this:
Tewacher: Have you been to the drivin range?
Student: Yes
Teacher: What for?
Student (nervously): To practice.
Teacher: When you hit a bad shot at the driving range, did you know why?
Student: Er, ah, no.
Taecher: When you hit a good shot at the driving range, did you know why?
Student: Ah....no,....not realy.
Teahcer: Hmmm, then why you go to absolutely driving range?
