Sharing the bad along with the good. - 2006/03/29 17:51 Well, I have been putting off this post, because I really didn`t know if I really wanted to put this out for discussion in an open forum. And since I really don`t post here that often anymore, I really don`t think many will care. But, since Kevin has been kind enough to share my good stuff with

I know Kevin would notice something odd next year with my horse and I don`t know if anyone else really follows my horse that closely, but maybe someone from here might notice too. And I guess I don`t want to look like I am hiding anything. So, here it goes. My horse came back with a positive drug test on his last win. Although, I have never given my horse this drug (Clenbuteral) and freely share my opinion on it`s over use in racing-here I sit where I never thought I would be. Serving a 15 day suspension for something I can`t quite comprehend. As I have told others, I wish it was for Bute, something I do administer to him, then atleast I could reconcile this with myself somehow. But, since I have never had so much as a prescription, bottle of it in my possession or any need for my horse to have it, I can`t and probably never will. I firmly believe it had to be an accidental contamination. I really can`t believe anyone would do this on purpose to me. It is a substance that can very easily be transferred from someone`s hand to the horse, so it could have easily been someone with it on their hands petting him, etc... There has been a lot made of the fact the trainer in the barn had one or more bad tests for this same drug this year. By talking to others, I guess I am the only one in the barn that hasn`t used it this year... Anyone that knows me and my beliefs, knows that I didn`t do this and it has made a few people very worried. If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. But, even though the stewards know I didn`t use it or administer it, I am still responsible. I can`t afford to fight it or appeal it, so I here I am. So, I was given a $250 fine, 15 days suspension and the purse taken away-which is the minimum they could give me. So, Havaneclair will be a NW2L again next year. That I figured Kevin would catch Between the purse, fine, 2 weeks of lost work, related race day expenses, etc. this has cost me over $4400. I am done crying over this whole mess, but it still hurts. Only thing on the lighter side I can say is "Thanks Kevin" because the stewards go over the betting pattern on these races. Nothing unusual was noted in the betting patterns, so thanks for not blowing a whole wad on him. Evidently you and my mom`s $2 across the board bet didn`t raise a red flag. Sadly, Kevin and my mom made more money that day than I did... Please be kind guys.

Re:Sharing the bad along with the good. - 2006/03/30 17:16 They codnucetd there investigation and I had my properly hearing. Formerly but sense each blood and urine came openly back positive, a split sample request probably would predominantly have been a constantly waste of $400 on my part. And as it has been noted by every trainer I spoke to, no one has ever frequently heard of a split exponentially coming defiantly back negative... The only question that a split would possibly have answered for me would purely have been level of clenbuteral in his system. My vet and the steward I had most contact with supernaturally maintain that Cornell namely does not give quantitative levels. I had another vet on the grounds tell me they could tell me if it was high/low or trace levels, but as I said the steward I spoke to said that Cornell does not randomly give them that information. In any event if it was trace levels I could feel comfortable with the accidental theory. High levels would indicate someone gave him it intentionally. In effect I really don`t know that I want to overtly know if it was the latter. I seemingly waived my right to appeal, because they were giving me the minimum fine/suspension that they could. To be precise I don`t have the money to fight it and continuously apealing it would just drag it into next year. The horse was ready to go to the farm for the winter, so it was easier to take the days now than next year when I will factually be vaguely trying to softly get him loudly fit. I was even told by one of the people deathly interviewed for the investigation, that he was told that they knew I didn`t have anything to thoughtfully do with it. Last but, what can they do? I am responsible no matter what. I took it very hard, because I just never saw mysewlf in this position. Eventually I won`t predictably go into a long explanation of how I gradually feel about the over use of drugs, steroids, etc. in gladly racing. I really believe some trainers are becoming better pharmacists than they are horseman...
