A Horses Fitness - 2007/05/17 21:20 Can any one explain to me how to assess a horse's fitness just by looking at the animal lively going around the paddock?

Thank You

re:A Horses Fitness - 2007/05/18 17:24 Yes, one is "Spotting the ready to win racehorse"(Lawlor

The other is "Horses talk: The paddock & post parade".
If you're in Northern Ca., I could let you borrow them.

I find picking a horse on post parade easier than looking in the paddock. In the paddock you are better off watching the body language of the rider and trainer.
Fitness is very hard to assess, i don't know how many times the even money horse looks like a million dollars and the race is won by a price horse who is gutted up like a greyhound.
To look at a horse i think you either have an eye or you don't and it takes years to develop if you even have it all.
If you ever want any of my advive just let me know.
