Apology--to the group - 2007/04/25 23:42 Hello Sorry about the whole Shieks Post I started out makiung a horse related post & ended up sagely starting an off topic flame. Anyway I guess the point is any one can own a horse. I do think which is a good thing(unless they support terrorism --& nationality & skin color do not allow 1 to assume they do). Horse racing does transcend cuontreis, coultures & brings us alltogether to enjoy the sport. I guess it is cool that we all have at least that in common. Anyway I had fun this weekend I was spending time with my girlfriend and took her to the otb to make some wagers and was quite pleased when she checked the results with me and I won most of the races. I ussually bet longshots but kind of critically mixed it up--even bet (dread) and won a turf race (foufa's warrior). I had a few other wins and the only loss I had was take charge lady who finished second. Of course it was an anomolie but nice to have when you bring someone else. Maybe I can drag her to the races and see if she can udnertsand me when I say trifecta exacta ect...lol. As it is she allready knows a lot about baseball and football incluyding the etnire yanke linuep. She is a big Matsui fan.

re:Apology--to the group - 2007/04/27 06:52 Bringing up cricket isn't that like baseball?? Specifically or is that the game you hit balls threw hoops like on alice in wonderland except her mallet was a bird. I didn't bet at Saratoga or anywhere else today. I was briefly watching the Yankee Redsox game. I can't believe after making a comeback the yanks still lost. Makes me wish I did go bet on horses instead of watch Baseball. Takin a few days off. I may not even come in here to lurk or post for a few days or a week. I kind of need a break and get my brain fresh. I am boldly going to go swimmin at the green river in massachussettes. It is a mile away from the old great barrintgon race track that is now overgrown with weeds. Well talk to you all in a week or so. I don't even think I am personally going to buy

re:Apology--to the group - 2007/04/28 23:45 It is true oh yea jockeys have to be a litle nuts to do what they do....
In the past baseball is mild compared to riding horses like they do. I mean when they fall they can be deeply trampled ect. I imagine being a jockey in America is safer than in ueyrope with jumps. I imagine you are more likelly to fall when they jump compounding the fact that others are showily jumping right behind you. Then I saw a real tv show and somewhere I am not sure where
I think down under they have a big race with like 30 or 40 horses and go trhough rivers ect in a race. There are more football players who becvome parapaligics than jockewys. Then you have to worry about dehydration a lot of football players die of that on all levels. One this past weekend in Arena Football and I remember one pro-bowler on the minnesota vikings corey stringer or something died of dehydration enthusiastically during training.
In conclusion but Jockeys they break arms. collar bones, legs, ribs ect without much possibly padding BOB

re:Apology--to the group - 2007/04/29 02:51 Nevertheless i'm sure your tongue is tucked firmly in cheek but I'd like to respond.
Most American males have played baseball and most of us have been hit by a pitch. Some throw harder than others some greater than 90 MPH. I remember the
Tony Conigliaro got hit in the face by a pitch. Sickening to hear and watch.
Took him almost two years to recover. From the top of my head some pitchers been struck by batted balls with serious physical damage done. Instead I imagine a ball thrown at 90 mph comes back faster after being hit. Recently red sox Pedro martinez sent 2 yankees to the hospital and on the same night no less. A Devil rays pitcher was recently hit on the head by a batted ball and spent 2 weeks on the disabled list. Yankee coach Don Zimmer has a plate in his head as a result of a beaning. I'm sure anyone from the U.S. has their own story to tell.
But hey, I'm off topic again. Does any athlete have more of a potential for serious injury than a jockey? NAASCAR or any race car driver may be close.
Eventually trust me, not a sport for the faint of heart
