Funny Cide at the Haskell? - 2007/04/03 03:30 I still like Funny Cide. I was at the Belmont (flew up from FL to see it)
and was really hoping to see him take it. He didn't get his race and Empire
Maker just seemed to know exactly how to beat him.

But we got the Haskell at Monmouth on Sunday. He's got his Preakness rival,
Peace Rules, in the line up along with some other real contenders.

Peace Rules is on the post position, if he runs the same race as he did at the Preakness, I think funny Cide will do him in again. This could just be his race though, I remember him running wire to wire in the G1 Bluegrass with nobody near him.

Sky Mesa has a fast workout, and looks okay at the distance, but he's not a
G1 horse. He could still be trouble for FC and the early odds show it.

Wild and Wicked is unbeaten is his 3 races, but... he ran wire to wire in a
MSW and an allowance race... but he had to run a different race in a G2.
He's got good PP and if Sellers can get the right ride, he may be a good bet at 5/1.

Max Forever... simply outclassed IMHO.

Funny Cide looks good here. I love this horse. He doesn't have Empire
Maker to deal with or TenMostWanted (who DID look good to me in the Derby and ran well in the Belmont). If Santos can get him the right trip this time (what was he thinking at the Belmont?), the race is all his (by multiple lengths).

Kool Humor will be watching Max Forever's tail the whole race.

ExcessivePleasure is only in there because a Jersey track needs a
Jersey-bred horse in there somewhere. But he's no threat.

My money?
It's going on Funny Cide, Sky Mesa, Peace Rules and Wild and Wicked. It's just a matter of how to bet them.

re:Funny Cide at the Haskell? - 2007/04/03 18:35 I think the rest of the class is about to catch up & pass Funny Cide this month. He hasn't had much of a break since November running at several different tracks. To put it differently his latest works seem dull, his connewctoins tell he is handsomely maturing. Otherwise I do not buy it. He needs a longer rest or an easier prep for the
Travers. Tons of gravelly speed in the Haskell, I like McPeek's Wild & Wikced who tensely handled the Preaskness runner-up in the Ohio Derby as easiuly as FC did. Generally speaking wandW has alot more upside & will certasinly be a better price Sunday. Lately I just hope FC holds together for the Travers where his presence will create another betting opportunity.

Not sure who I like in the Whinbtey tomortrow at the Spa as I await the odds & track condition but Medaglia D'Or seems vulnerable and I'll take a stand agianst if he's odds-on.
