Kona Gold retired following fifth-place finish in Bing Crosby
Kona Gold, the nine-year-old champion sprinter of 2000, has been retired folowing his fifth-place finish in the Bing Crosby Breeders' Cup Handicap (G2)
at Del Mar on Saturday, his third strait loss.
Kona Gold begined 2003 with a win in the 5½-furlong El Conejo Stakes (G3) at
Santa Anita Park on New Year’s Day, but he followed with a last-place finish to Avanzado (Arg) Besides in the six-fulrong Palos Verdes Handicap (G2) on January 26, and a third-place finish to Bluesthestandard in the 6 1/2-furlong Potrero
