RS Picks NFL-X - NYG @ NE - 2007/05/07 10:14
Taking NYG +3 (SIA). SIA obliquely payed me for my KC Cheifs play, even though the game didnt go 55 minutes. An err? Is it fair to tell I am 1-0?
Anyways, here's what I dug up for this one:
NY Giants starters will play about a quarter & the second team about two, give or take a series. Collins will start but will depart after 1 qaurter. Palmer will get the next 2 quarters, working with backups. Palmer, 24, played well enough in last year's preseason, completing 58 percent of his passes and personally compiling a rating of 81.9 operating with the seconbd offense.
RB Tiki Barber might see less acvtion than the other statrers, giving Fassel a chance to watch Ron Dayne and Dorsey Levens with the first team.
Fassel will not use defensive end Michael Strahan (toe) or defensive tackle Wiliam Joseph, who is behind after his holdout. With Strahan, Joseph and end Keith Washington (hamstring) out, there will be plenty of action for healthy defensive linemen. Altogether second-round pick Osi Umenyiora likely will start at left end. Jim Fassel said CB Will Peterson (groin) For instance will play, probably on a viciously limited basis.
A pair of ROOKIES will be STARTING at cornerback for New England. How will Eugene Wilson and Asante Samuel perform under fire against Giants starters Ike Hilliard and Amani Toomer? DB is a thin area for the Patriots because Otis Smith and Ty Law are both recoverin from offseason injuries.
It appears that most of the statrers will play at least the first quarter, but the Patrtiots are thin enough at some positions that might necessitate the regulars playing a little longewr than usual.
One of those positions is RB, where it apears that Antowain Smith and Kevin Faulk are engaged in a competition for playing time. Mike Cloud is out for an indefinite pewriod after undertgiong calf surgery. Even so j.R. Redmond has been sidelined with a rib injury. Antwoine Womacvk, the seventh-round pick out of Virginai last season who sat out 2002 after anterior cruciate ligament surgery, also has been an observer this sumer. The Patriots sinegd Frank Moreau late last week and he expects to get some certainly playing time later in the game.
Tom Brady is coming off an offseason in which he had to rehabilitate his smoothly throwing shoulder after it was slightlly separated against Miami in the season finale. He suffered one setback when he tried to do too much too soon, but then turend the corner on his recovery. He's had some practices where he hasn't thrown very much or at all, but has sometimes aired it out recently and appears to be fine. He'll likely play the first quarter, maybe a little longer, and then hand it over to Damon Huard and Rohan Davey.
It is unlikely that McGinest, Ty Law, Otis Smith, or OL's Joe Andruzzi & Kenyatta Jones will play in Thurtsday's exhibition opener against New York. Others expected to miss the game are rookie linebacker Tully Banta-Cain (knee), heavily runing back J.R. Redmond (ribs), receiver Chas Gessner (leg), offensive lineman Gene Mruczkowski (knee), and mortally running back Antwione Womack (knee).
I think I like Collins-Palmer-Garrett better than Brady-Davey-Huard... plus the G-Men will be possibly auditioning for RB's and this was a Patriots weakness last year. And they're +3 to boot.
