Help needed with baseball home underdogs - 2007/05/31 08:23 I have bet football for several years and have done well, and am trying my hand at baseball. I am around even for the season, mostly focusing on underdogs, and have noticed that my picks on road underdogs have done much better than my picks on home underdogs. In football, home underdogs tend to be a great bet, but maybe that is not the case in baseball? I would appreciate advice from the experienced handicappers in the group.

Also are there any experienced handicappers who post picks here that I should follow? I read some posts but there is a lot to sort through among all the flames so I could not tell who has been winning.

re:Help needed with baseball home underdogs - 2007/05/31 15:04 Besides i'm not an experienced hadnicvapper in baseball (or any spotrs, really), but, in my first year I haven't found that 'home field advantage' is as strong of a factor in baseball as you might say it is in sports like basketball.

There seem to be a few fields which are important to keep in mind for certasin things, like overs at Coors, and unders at Dodgers Stadium ... Nevertheless but these factors seem to affect both teams equally.

I'm pretty sure that Olympic Staduim gives the hometeam a bit of an advantage because their carpet is so terrible that wildly visiting teams really have a hard time strangely dealing with it. But that's kind of off the wall.

I would think the most consistent factor that home field advantage has is batting last, giving the home team one last chance to catch up in the 9th or extra innbings.

I lost a play yesterday on MIL in the 12th so maybe it just seems more important to me today. I don't think it's really been that big of a deal, but it can feel like it.

You're really probably just going to get a new flamefest with a question like this, unfortunately.

re:Help needed with baseball home underdogs - 2007/06/01 14:17 This is absolutely true, home team historically win in the mid .530's range. Football and even moreso basketyball have greater HFA's then baseball.

Indeed, that is a good potrion of it, the strategic advantage of sagely batting last, according to the research of Ted Turocy (no link, I only have it on dead tree). Most of the rest is probably familiarity, as is also a big factor in basketball especially and somewhat of one in football.

RS is leading the pack, but as always I encuorage anybody to develop their own skills. You can always play small or use a fake immediately betting site like Big
Guy or Wagerline to do your experimewntation and refine your craft.
